UPDATE: August 23, 2021

A tropical storm struck Haiti just days after the earthquake, which complicated our ability to respond immediately. But over the weekend, our ReachGlobal team in Haiti began bringing loads of supplies to the areas most-impacted in the southern part of the island. Many of the supplies will be going directly to children sponsored through GlobalFingerprints as well as others in need in the area. Right now, the most crucial response is continuing to raise funds to get supplies to those who need them and tangibly share the love of Christ in the wake of this crisis.

In scenes reminiscent of 2010, Haiti, yet again, faced catastrophe following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

A powerful earthquake struck southern Haiti on August 14 and towns and villages near the epicenter have been severely impacted. Ministry partners have reported significant damage and we are gathering information on a GlobalFingerprints site in the areaReachGlobal Crisis Response is mobilizing prayer and financial resources to share the love of Christ in the wake of this crisis. Would you and your church please join the response?

ReachGlobal missionaries in Haiti shared the following after the earthquake:

"We are hearing of overwhelmed hospitals and doctors, pleading for help and medicine. USGA reports that 615,000 people were inside the severe shake zone. Please pray for the Haitian People tonight as they are sleeping outside in fear of aftershocks."

This earthquake adds to a number of significant challenges for the country. Haiti has faced political and economic strife for decades, and the recent assassination of President Jovenel Moïse has elevated tensions in the Caribbean nation. Yet, in the midst of the hardship, ReachGlobal has been blessed by deep relationships with gospel ministries throughout Haiti. We grieve with the Haitian people and ask for God's comfort and mercy.
