Co-Vocational Pastor

Part-time role providing leadership to the church while working in another vocation, gaining connection with the community.

Ministry description

Grace Bible Church is an Evangelical Free Church (efca.org) located in Marlette, Michigan. Grace is a community-focused church that is currently seeking a community focused pastor to provide leadership to our congregation. This opportunity will be co-vocational, roughly 25 hours a week, to allow the pastor the opportunity to integrate into our community by working roughly 20 hours a week to develop opportunities for personal evangelism and community connection.


  • Demonstrates the qualifications of an Elder as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 with the heart of a shepherd as described in 1 Peter 5:1-4
  • Three or more years of experience in local church preaching, teaching and community outreach
  • Three or more years of experience living, working or ministering in a small town rural context
  • Humility to follow previous long term pastorate and appreciation of the church’s history
  • Teachable spirit, a willingness to seek the counsel of others
  • Experience and ability to recruit, train and develop leaders
  • Commitment to lifelong learning
  • Full agreement with the Statement of Faith of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) without reservation
  • Licensed or ordained with the EFCA or willing and eligible to pursue license or ordination from the EFCA within two years


  • Prioritize prayer and the ministry of the Word to glorify God by making, maturing and multiplying disciples of Jesus Christ
  • Be the primary communicator in preaching and teaching the Scriptures and overseeing gathered worship opportunities
  • Provide pastoral leadership to the church and for the community
  • Be the primary equipper of the church for both ministry (internally) and mission (externally) and view the primary role as an equipper and mobilizer
  • Work in conjunction with the Elders and volunteer teams to pursue the mission and vision of our church
  • Commitment to stay qualified for ministry leadership (spiritually, physically and relationally)
