Ukraine is plagued with a wide variety of social justice ills, including a culture that for many years has put thousands of children in orphanages. While there is better and better understanding among churches throughout Ukraine today that we must care for orphans, there is still much work to be done.
As part of your internship, you will learn about the past and current social systems which have lead to the existing orphan crisis in Ukraine, as well as work with the Kyiv city team and partners to facilitate a way forward.
Basic skills needed for this position are demonstrated abilities of working with children and the adults who care for them and organizational skills. A degree in Education or Social Work is desired. We also need individuals with extensive experience and first-hand knowledge of how to help children interact and engage.
Secondary skills would include flexibility and a basic understanding of current social issues. Humility and a servant’s heart are key as you will often be called upon to provide help to caretakers who feel desperate in their situation. You will be called upon to be a voice for the voiceless by communicating with pastors and Ukrainian leaders how they can better serve the orphan community. A general knowledge of learning disabilities/special needs would also be helpful.
