On January 12, 2010, a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti and within days ReachGlobal was on the ground helping with immediate relief including food, water, medical aid, and temporary housing along with emotional and spiritual encouragement for the thousands of people affected by this disaster.
ReachGlobal’s focus shifted quickly to recovery after only a few short weeks with aid in rebuilding people’s lives and homes. However, after additional interaction with the Haitian’s, it was clear that Haiti needed more, long-term development and Gospel Transformation. Since the earthquake, numerous short-term teams have come to Haiti to help further this vision. They have served, engaged with local churches and the community, prayed and invested in countless relationships.
Sending a Team
There are a variety ministry opportunities in Haiti for short-term teams consisting of adults and/or youth and even families, based on the gifts and talents of the team. David Boerema, Senior High Pastor, Hershey Evangelical Free Church reflects, "But remember, the projects only provide the context for being shoulder to shoulder with the people of Haiti in relationship." Some of these opportunities include but are not limited to:
- Equipping and Disciple-making
- ESL (English as Second Language)
- Ministering to at risk kids
See the Team Leader Packet and Application form on the right for more details.
$840 per person for a week, which includes most in country costs. Airfare is additional. Lodging is in the ministry house or bunk houses on the ministry property.
Additional Partnership Opportunites
Sending a team is only one way to partner in Haiti. Many other opportunities exist. See the ReachGlobal Haiti Consortium page.
