In October 2015, Columbia, South Carolina experienced between 18-24 inches of rainfall over a four day period. FEMA reported 86,000 people registered with them statewide experiencing significant flood damages, of which 23,000 are in Richland and Lexington Counties, where we are focusing our response efforts.
The long-term recovery is predicted to go on for at least three years. Most people did not have flood insurance, leaving many wondering how will they ever recover. This means they'll need ministries and organizations like ReachGlobal who can provide labor to supplement available resources. With this is mind, we are partnering with Riverside Community Church, in Columbia to rebuild the church and reach out to the community to not only help rebuild homes but to bring the hope of the gospel to those that have lost so much.
Volunteer short-term teams are needed to aid in the recovery efforts and bring the transforming power of the gospel to Columbia. They need volunteers to serve, engage with the local church, pray and invest in the lives of homeowners and their neighbors. Then they can bring what they have learned home with them and begin to transform their own communities and those around them.
